They have describe reflective design, a practice which combines analysis of the ways in which technologies reflect and perpetuate unconscious cultural assumptions, with design, building, and evaluation of new computing devices that reflect alternative possibilities.

we talked about the two case studies that thay have mention in their paper which are, Reflective Design in the Art Mueseum, and Intimate Objects. Further we discussed about Foundations of Reflective Design, it includes the Participatoty design, Value-Sensitive Design, Critical Design, Ludic Design also we taked about Critical Technical Practice, Reflections in action.

Marion Buchenau and Jane Fulton Suri, Experince prototyping .

We have discussed this paper in our class Current issues in interaction design.

“Prototypes” are representation of a design made before final artifacts exists. prototypes created to inform both design process and design decisions. They range from sketches and different kind of models at various levels “looks like”, “Behave likes” and “works like” to explore and communicate proposition about design and its context.

prototyping is a key activity within the design of interactive systems.

“Experience Prototyping” define as to emphasize the experiential aspect of whatever representation are needed to successfully (re)live or convey and experience with a product, space or system.

Operation definition can say an Experience prototype is any kind of representation, in any medium, that is design to unerstand, explore or communicate what it might be like to engage with the product, space or systems we are desiging. techniques can be storyboards, scenarios, sketches, video etc.

experience prototyping is valuable, Understanding existing user experiences and context, Exploring and evaluating design ideas, Communicating ideas to an audience.

The main purpose of Experience prototyping is by doing this activety it is in facilitating the exploration of possible solutions and directing the design team towards a more informed develpment of the user experience and the tangible componets which create it. through EP we are able to evaluate a variety of ideas, by ourselves, with design colleagues, users or clients and through successive iterations mold the user experience.

in this session we have talked about the ROV pilot Experience, controller for an immersive environment, Experiencing an Airplane Interior etc.

This discussions was very helpful for our development project when we were doing our prototypes.

In our lecture 9 we had a guest lecture with Mrs.Suzette Keith. it is all about the designing a car for oder people. she presented the summary of the research they did and summary of the aspects they looked.

The highlighted point were Why design is impotant? Needs and requrements of older people, its legal position as well as their participatory methodology they looked at.

we discussed the ethical arguments such as citizen quality of oppotunities and participation, the digital divide, business case such as purchasing power, corporate responsibility, empowerment, and workplace legislation. we talked about several economic arguments e.g Tesco website for disability people.

considering the legal position we discussed the effects of disability discrimination and accesibility legislations and standerdisation. The active participations includes the Ethnographic studies, Retrospective accounts, experience with concept.

The term Ludic comes from Huizings’s (1950) homo ludens, or people as playful creatures. From this perspective characterised not just by thinking or achievements but by playfulness.Discussion is based on the paper about three electronic furniture prototype designs to encourage ludic engagement in the home.

Paper discussed about 3 designs they conducted which are , Drift Table, Historical Table Cloth, and Key Table.

Drift Table is it shows slowly scrolling aerial photography controlled by the weight of the objects on its surface.

Historical Table Cloth which creates slowly growing ‘Halos’ around left on it

The Key Table measures the force with which people put things on it and titls a picture frame to indicate their mood.

The concept of ludic engagement covers a wide range of exploratory, self motivated activities. We play not to achieve a goal but rather because the process it self inheritently rewarding. This does not mean that play is unproductive; on the contrary play can be valuable in helping people to explore new relations, to reflect about activities and values and bring awareness new goals and perspectives.
